Navoi State University actively develops international and regional partnerships that enhance its academic capacity and support progress toward the Sustainable Development Goals. Through collaborative training programs, exchange visits, joint discussions, research, and academic networking, the university enhances its capacity to address key themes such as quality education, innovation and scientific development, environmental sustainability, cultural sustainability, and institutional cooperation for sustainable development.
These collaborations allow NSU staff to observe different educational, scientific, and management systems, explore comparative approaches, and plan joint activities that directly contribute to the development of sustainable teaching practices, research initiatives, community engagement, and university governance.
The cases below present examples of NSU’s involvement in such international cooperation.
1. Cooperation with the Czech University of Natural Sciences
A team of NSU professors participated in a professional development program hosted by the Czech University of Natural Sciences. The visit included seminars, laboratory sessions, and methodological workshops aimed at studying new approaches in natural sciences and environmental education.
During the program, the two universities discussed opportunities for collaboration in areas such as environmental monitoring, sustainable resource management, climate-related scientific studies, and strengthening science education.
This exchange supported NSU’s academic development and aligned with university initiatives related to environmental sustainability, research capacity building, and quality education.
2. Academic Exchange in Azerbaijan in the field of Sustainable Development
NSU professors visited the Azerbaijan State University of Culture and Arts, where they took part in training sessions, creative workshops, and seminars on modern pedagogical and cultural approaches.
The sides explored possibilities for joint work in areas connected to cultural heritage preservation, creative education, community engagement, and strengthening educational quality.
The visit also supported regional cooperation and professional growth, contributing to NSU’s broader efforts to integrate international experience into sustainable institutional development.
3. Memorandum Signed with Seljuk University (Türkiye)
Navoi State University strengthened its international cooperation by signing a memorandum of understanding with Seljuk University, one of Türkiye’s leading higher education institutions. During the visit, the NSU rector met with the leadership of Seljuk University to discuss areas of mutual academic interest and avenues for long-term cooperation.
The memorandum outlines plans for joint scientific research, faculty and student exchanges, and co-organised international conferences and academic events. Through these activities, both universities will be able to compare approaches in higher education, research organisation, and community engagement.
The cooperation also supports Sustainability practices such as quality education, research and innovation capacity, cultural and academic exchange, and strengthens global partnerships. This agreement expands NSU’s regional and international collaboration network and contributes to the university’s efforts to integrate global experience into its academic and research development.
4. Memorandum with Perlis University of Malaysia
Navoi State University expanded its global cooperation through the signing of a memorandum of understanding with Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP). The agreement focuses on strengthening academic collaboration and developing joint initiatives in technology-oriented fields with attention to innovation and sustainability priorities.
Under the memorandum, the two universities agreed to establish a joint business incubator, collaborate on modernising study programs in artificial intelligence and logistics, and launch student and faculty exchange programmes. These initiatives support NSU’s efforts to enhance innovation, promote sustainable technological development, and integrate globally relevant skills into academic training.
The cooperation also includes the creation of a joint scientific journal indexed in Scopus, which will increase international research visibility and enable comparative academic work between both institutions, including research related to sustainable development themes.
5. Collaboration Memorandum with Almaty University of Technology (Kazakhstan)
Navoi State University strengthened its regional cooperation by signing a memorandum with the Almaty University of Technology in Kazakhstan. The agreement expands academic partnership and supports collaborative development in education, research, and professional exchange.
Under the memorandum, the two institutions will jointly organise scientific-methodological conferences, develop textbooks, teaching materials, and methodological guides, and promote experience exchange among specialists. The partnership also includes cooperation on integrating modern scientific and methodological programs into teaching practice.
As part of ongoing discussions, both sides expressed interest in exploring joint research areas relevant to sustainability, including topics such as green energy applications, environment-friendly technologies, and sustainable engineering education — fields in which Almaty University of Technology has established expertise. These directions will support NSU’s efforts to enhance sustainability-related academic capacity.
6. Cooperation with Imam Khomeini International University (Iran)
Navoi State University is expanding its international academic cooperation with a focus on sustainability-related fields such as cultural sustainability, environmental education, and socially oriented scientific development. Within this framework, NSU established a new partnership with Imam Khomeini International University (Iran) during the “Alisher Navoi and the Eastern Renaissance” international symposium held in Navoi region.
Scholars from Iran participated in symposium sessions and held discussions with the NSU leadership on strengthening cooperation in higher education and academic exchange. Following these meetings, the two universities signed a memorandum of understanding.
The memorandum includes collaboration on joint scientific–methodological conferences, student and faculty exchange, experience sharing, and the introduction of modern academic programmes into educational practice. Given the Iranian university’s strong academic profile in humanities, engineering, natural sciences, and social sciences, the sides also expressed interest in developing joint activities connected to sustainability-oriented directions.
This cooperation contributes to NSU’s broader efforts to integrate international experience into sustainable academic development and supports SDG themes related to quality education, cultural and social sustainability, and international partnerships.
7. Participation in International Conference in China
Navoi State University continues to expand its international cooperation with a focus on sustainability, especially in areas such as sustainable industry development, innovation transfer, and strengthening higher education systems. In this context, NSU representatives actively participated in a major international conference held in Urumqi, China, dedicated to cooperation between China and Central Asian countries in industry, universities, scientific research, and the practical application of technological achievements.
Nearly 300 participants from different countries joined the event, where NSU was represented by the Vice-Rector for International Cooperation and senior staff members. As part of the programme, Navoi State University was officially accepted as a member of the “6 Campus” international initiative, strengthening its access to global academic and sustainability-related networks.
During the conference:
  • A cooperation agreement was signed with the Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK), a QS Top-12 institution;
  • NSU delivered a presentation on the relevance of developing the higher education system in Uzbekistan;
  • Agreements were reached with universities from China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and other countries on joint academic and scientific cooperation.

8. Memorandum with Konya Karatay University (Türkiye)
Navoi State University is expanding its international cooperation in ways that also support sustainability-related academic priorities, including research on social well-being, educational innovation, and long-term institutional development. As part of these efforts, NSU signed a bilateral memorandum with Konya Karatay University (Türkiye) to strengthen academic and scientific collaboration between the two institutions.
The memorandum covers several areas of cooperation:
  • conducting joint research projects, including studies linked to social well-being, sustainable development, and community-oriented innovation;
  • organising scientific conferences and academic meetings;
  • establishing student and faculty exchange programmes;
  • and encouraging broader collaboration in modernising academic practices.
During the signing ceremony, NSU rector Professor Muxiddin Kalonov and Konya Karatay University rector Dr. Fayzi Rifat Ortaç discussed future cooperation opportunities in a constructive and friendly atmosphere. Both sides highlighted the importance of exchanging new academic approaches, supporting innovative ideas, and developing sustainable growth strategies to remain competitive in the international higher education landscape.
9. Cooperation with Guangxi Vocational and Agricultural University (China)
Navoi State University is expanding its international cooperation in areas closely linked to sustainability, especially in agriculture, food security, rural development, and modern educational practices. As part of these efforts, an NSU delegation visited Guangxi Vocational and Agricultural University in China—one of the country’s leading institutions in agricultural sciences.
The visit supported the implementation of the Presidential Decree PQ-430 on strengthening international cooperation. During the meetings, the two universities discussed advancing collaboration in education and science, with particular attention to sustainability-oriented fields such as agricultural innovation, resource-efficient farming, and modern agritech solutions.
The partnership plans include:
  • launching joint academic programs;
  • introducing dual degree and exchange opportunities for students;
  • supporting and co-financing joint research projects, including those related to sustainable agricultural practices;
  • organising short-term internships and faculty exchange programmes;
broad cooperation to enhance training quality in agriculture and related sectors
10. Strategic Partnership with Geely Holding (China)
Navoi State University is increasingly strengthening partnerships that contribute to sustainability-oriented development in education, technology, and industry. Within this direction, NSU established a strategic cooperation agreement with Geely Holding, focusing on innovative education, modern industrial requirements, and long-term sustainable skill development.
The collaboration includes the creation of the “Xinwei Institute”, an innovative educational centre expected to serve not only Uzbekistan but the wider Central Asian region. The institute aims to integrate advanced technologies, support industry-relevant training, and promote educational models that align with sustainable industrial growth and modern workforce needs.
As part of the partnership, more than 100 representatives from the education sector, international experts, and institutional stakeholders participated in official meetings dedicated to the initiative. During these discussions, NSU and Geely Holding signed a strategic cooperation agreement outlining shared goals in developing modern training infrastructure, supporting innovative teaching, and strengthening collaboration between academia and industry.
11. Uzbekistan–Spain Seminar on Higher Education Cooperation
Navoi State University continues to expand its international cooperation with an interest in areas such as sustainable tourism, cultural heritage preservation, and quality education development. Within this direction, NSU representatives took part in a seminar dedicated to strengthening academic collaboration between universities of Uzbekistan and Spain.
The seminar was held at the Silk Road International University of Tourism and Cultural Heritage in Samarkand and brought together representatives of several leading Spanish higher education institutions. NSU staff held discussions with Spanish partners on establishing cooperation in sustainable education fields, developing joint academic initiatives, and creating opportunities for student and staff exchange.
