The university has implemented a comprehensive range of facilities and initiatives to ensure equal participation in academic and social life.
1. Handicapped Accessible Walkways
The university has installed paved, ramped, and step-free walkways across the campus to facilitate safe movement for wheelchair users and others with mobility challenges. Clear signage and guide paths assist navigation throughout all academic buildings and dormitories.
2. Truncated Domes (Tactile Paving)
Tactile paving with truncated dome patterns has been installed at pedestrian crossings, building entrances, and key transition points across campus. These tactile indicators serve as sensory guidance for visually impaired individuals, helping them safely navigate the campus environment.
3. Accessible Toilets
NSU offers specially designed toilets for individuals with physical disabilities. These toilets are equipped with safety handrails, wide-entry doors, and are situated in accessible areas across academic buildings and student dormitories, ensuring comfort and independence for users with mobility limitations.
4. Maternity Rest Rooms
To support pregnant students and staff, NSU has equipped 7 dedicated maternity rest rooms — one in each of the university’s 7 campus buildings — furnished with beds and lounge chairs. This wide distribution ensures that expectant mothers have convenient access to a private and comfortable resting space no matter which building they are in, allowing them to rest in a safe and supportive environment during their time on campus.
5. Assistive Technologies and Braille Resources in the Library
Navoi State University offers a range of assistive technologies and specialized resources in its library for students with visual impairments. Key features include:
A dedicated room is available for blind and low-vision students.
The room is equipped with 4 computers pre-installed with NVDA (NonVisual Desktop Access) screen reading software, which helps users navigate and operate the computer via voice guidance.
An audio library of 565 academic resources is stored and accessible through these systems, allowing students to listen to textbooks and other educational materials in Uzbek and other languages.
The library holds a collection of Braille alphabet books and educational materials, providing blind students with direct access to written content through tactile reading.
6. Audio (Talking) Traffic Lights
Navoi State University has installed audio (talking) traffic lights at key pedestrian crossings on and around the campus. These traffic signals emit audible cues to assist visually impaired individuals in safely crossing roads. The audio signals indicate when it is safe to cross, providing an additional layer of safety and independence for blind and low-vision members of the university community.
7. Priority Service for Students with Disabilities (Academic and Administrative Offices)
Navoi State University ensures priority and out-of-turn service for students with disabilities in academic and administrative departments, including the registrar’s office and student affairs units. This includes expedited processing for enrolment, document issuance, social benefits registration, and health-related procedures, allowing students with special needs to access essential university services without unnecessary delays or queues.
