Navoi State University (NSU) actively implements biodiversity conservation and genetic resource preservation programs through educational, research, and environmental activities. These initiatives span plant conservation, molecular genetic research, microbiological resource preservation, and wildlife biodiversity monitoring, supporting both long-term conservation goals and the development of new agricultural varieties.
1. Greenhouse for Plant Conservation Navoi State University maintains a greenhouse at the Faculty of Natural Sciences for the cultivation, preservation, and study of various plant species. The greenhouse supports biodiversity conservation, practical education, and scientific research activities. Among the species cultivated, the Department of Biology is currently studying new blueberry samples, conducting research into their growth and yield characteristics with the aim of developing new, locally adapted varieties suitable for cultivation in the region.
2. Campus Tree Conservation Area
The university campus contains a wide variety of trees and ornamental plants. Regular monitoring, irrigation, maintenance, and replacement planting activities are carried out to preserve campus biodiversity and improve environmental sustainability.
3. “Yashil Makon” Tree Planting Program
The university actively participates in the national “Yashil Makon” initiative. Every year, students and staff plant and maintain hundreds of trees and shrubs, contributing to the long-term conservation of plant resources and expansion of green spaces.
4. Biological Collections and Herbarium Resources
The Department of Biology maintains educational and research collections of plant specimens and biological materials used for biodiversity studies, species identification, and conservation-related activities.
A thermal cycler (amplifier) used for DNA amplification through the Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) method, enabling genetic analysis and identification of plant and animal species.
A horizontal gel electrophoresis system used to separate and analyze DNA, RNA, and proteins for genetic and biochemical research.
A gel documentation system for recording, visualizing, and storing the results of electrophoresis analysis.
A laminar flow PCR box providing a sterile environment for DNA amplification procedures.
Ultra-low-temperature laboratory freezers (down to −40°C) and refrigerators (+2°C to +8°C) used for the medium- and long-term storage of DNA, RNA, proteins, and other biological samples.
5. The Department of Biology at Navoi State University operates a dedicated molecular biology laboratory equipped with modern instruments for genetic resource research and conservation.
6. Biotechnology and Microbiology Research Laboratory
The Biotechnology and Microbiology Research Laboratory supports the preservation and study of microorganisms and biological resources. Modern laboratory equipment is used for biodiversity research and sustainable biological applications.
7. Chlorella vulgaris Conservation and Research
The university conducts research on the cultivation and application of Chlorella vulgaris microalgae. This biological resource is maintained under laboratory conditions and used in studies related to fisheries, sericulture, and sustainable agricultural development.
8. Zoological Research and Biodiversity Monitoring
Master’s and doctoral students conduct zoological studies involving biological samples collected for scientific analysis. These activities contribute to biodiversity monitoring and conservation awareness.
